History

Monte Vista is a housing project on the site of the historic Del Monte Cannery No. 3, which operated for 82 years. KB Homes built 383 residences - 238 condominiums and 135 townhouses - on 12.8 acres near downtown. The triangular site is bounded by Auzerais Avenue, Sunol Street and Los Gatos Creek. One of the largest in the valley, the cannery opened in 1917 and closed in December 1999. During that time, fresh fruit and vegetables were loaded onto conveyor belts and processed into billions upon billions of cans and jars shipped around the country.
